This study of 757 employees of a health maintainance organization explored thedifferential impact of social support among African-American women, white females, and white males in professional (work) and personal (nonwork) contexts. Statistical analyses found that social support in either context reduced stress in both contexts for white women and men. The impact of social support for African-American women was context specific and did not transfer between contexts. The results of this study have implications for the facilitation of a healthy and productive multicultural workplace.
