Biographical Sketch of Chris Wolfe

Dr. Wolfe holds a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh in Learning, Developmental, & Cognitive Psychology. There he worked in the Learning Research and Development Center, a center for the study of cognition and instruction. His previous educational and professional experience includes an interdisciplinary undergraduate major at Denison University and a position as System's Manager of the Center for Individualized Instruction at the University of Bridgeport.

Dr. Wolfe joined the faculty of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies at Miami in 1989 and served as Director of Quantitative Reasoning and Instructional Computing as well as Director of the Windate Writing Center for the Western College Program. Dr. Wolfe has taught interdisciplinary courses on social systems, natural systems, and information technology. He has also represented the graduate school on doctoral committees. His service to the university includes a seat on the university senate, twice chairing the universities computer policy committee, serving on the provost and vice president's computer advisory group, and chairing the president's task force on learning technologies. He was co-ordinator of the social systems area withing the School of Interdisciplinary Studies. A long-time affiliate of the Department of Psychology, Wolfe formally joined the department on July 1, 2008.

Dr. Wolfe's research and scholarship are primarily concerned with issues related to higher-order cognition, cognitive technologies, and cognition and instruction. This work places particular emphasis on higher-order cognitive processes, and the relationship between learning, reasoning, and the representation of knowledge. He has published in diverse journals including the Journal of Behavioral Decision Making, Journal of Consulting and Clininal Psychology, Applied Cognitive Psychology, The Journal of Sociology and Social Welfare, and Behavior Research Methods. He is Co-Director of Miami's Center for Human Development, Learning, and Technology, editor of Learning and Teaching on the World Wide Web, and former President of the Society for Computers in Psychology (SCiP).

Dr. Wolfe enjoys playing with his children, reading, fishing, camping, snorkeling, gardening, jazz, Rock 'N Roll, wine tasting, and drinkin' beer while watching the Browns beat the Bungals. GO Cleveland!
